The SET Plan Workshop: SPIRE continues its efforts

Brussels, 27-28 June 2018 – SPIRE hosted two sessions at the SET Plan Action 6 workshop where project ideas on Symbiosis and Non-conventional energy sources and Digitization were presented. All the pitches aimed at contributing to meet the EU challenges on climate change and the circular economy. The workshop gathered stakeholders including industry, research institutions and academia, as well as SET Plan Countries, crucial actors to further developing activities into concrete projects, including possible SPIRE projects.

The executive director of A.SPIRE, Àngels Orduña called on participants to fully utilise the SPIRE sessions to not only learn more about the project ideas, but also discover funding opportunities and the potential for cross-border cooperation. SPIRE welcomes closer collaboration with Member States, as such partnerships would improve impact from public funding and private investment, without creating more complexities and barriers for both private and public parties. She also highlighted SPIRE’s 2050 Vision of reaching the target of well-below 2°C and fully circular society.

SPIRE projects have set a precedent in defining how to move towards the next generation of European process industries. Projects dealing with Digitization for the process industries have the possibility of achieving the next steps through SPIRE-6 call on 21 February 2018.

During the two-day workshop, five SPIRE members presented pitches. Participants welcomed the possibility for peer feedback and further brainstorming on potential proposals, as well as new contacts for the consortiums.
