SPIRE Press Release: EU's MFF (2021-2027)

The European Commission has published a proposal for a Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2021-2027 with the intention to set up a €97.6 billion budget for Horizon Europe to continue to “promote research excellence and strengthen the focus on innovation”. This is seen as ambitious yet realistic proposal for a modern EU budget. Later in May this budget proposal will be presented to the EU Council of Ministers.

SPIRE strongly supports this proposal for an increased budget for R&I activities under the coming MFF. Earlier this year, Daniel Gauthier, President of A.SPIRE, called for a strong budget for FP9 to be included in the EU’s Multi financial framework for 2021-2027 while emphasizing that there is much potential, with the right strategy and funding, for the industry to contribute to global and European goals.

SPIRE is now in the process of revising its original SPIRE2030 roadmap to create a Vision2050, which will define how the public-private partnership (PPP) can contribute to reduce CO2 footprint, improve water and waste use, preserve natural resources and provide health and welfare to EU citizens. The eight SPIRE sectors are working together to create a joint strategic approach and provide solutions for common challenges.
