EPOS Insights 6-10

Summary:

EPOS insights are publications summarising the most relevant outcomes of the EU funded EPOS project. The overall aim of the EPOS project is to enable cross-sectorial industrial symbiosis and provide a wide range of technological and organisational options for making business and operations more efficient, more cost-effective, more competitive & more sustainable across process sectors.

Industrial symbiosis in the Humber region

This insight summarises the preliminary analysis and results from the first business case in the EPOS project. The potential synergy was detected at the UK Hull cluster and involves CEMEX South Ferriby and INEOS Hull.

An introduction to vitrual sector profiles

Sector blueprints provide a smart solution for any company interested in exploring symbiosis with neighbouring process industries, irrespective of sector or size. These blueprints are comprised of typical processes that are used in an industrial sector.

Minerals blueprint

The industrial minerals blueprint represents a typical production layout in the industrial minerals sector (covering the major process steps and the related energy and material requirements. Due to the extensive scope of materials covered by the industrial minerals sector, this EPOS Sector Blueprint was built from the production of calcium carbonate (CaCO3).

Industrial symbiosis in the Fos-sur-Mer region (FR): Arcelormittal and INEOS; Naphthalened gasoil business case

This insight summarises the preliminary analysis and results of one EPOS business case, detected at the French cluster in Lavera. The potential new synergy involves ArcelorMittal Fos-sur-Mer and INEOS Lavera.

Industrial symbiosis in the Fos-sur-Mer region (FR): Arelormittal and INEOS; Coke business case

This insight summarises the preliminary analysis and results of an EPOS synergy business case detected at the French cluster in Lavera. The potential new synergy involves ArcelorMittal Fos-sur-Mer and INEOS Lavera.

Enhanced energy and resource Efficiency and Performance in process industry Operations via onsite and cross-sectorial Symbiosis

The EPOS project brings together 5 global process industries from 5 key relevant sectors: steel, cement, chemicals, minerals and engineering.

EPOS's main objective is to enable cross-sectorial Industrial Symbiosis (IS) and provide a wide range of technological and organisational options for making business and operations more efficient, more cost-effective, more competitiveand more sustainable across process sectors.

The research project receives funding from the European Community‘s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 (2014-2020) under grant agreement no. 679386. This work was supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) under contract number 15.0217.
