The SPRING project reached completion in September 2019. Outputs from the project are summarised here and in the new SPIRE project recommendations and guidance webpage: www.spire2030.eu/projects/guidance
Increasing industrial uptake of project findings was at the heart of project SPRING. It is the essential building block for ensuring greater impact of SPIRE projects and therefore progress towards the SPIRE roadmap goals of increased resource and energy efficiency in the EU process industries. Instead of focusing on a small cluster of projects, SPRING was developed to provide the mechanism to enhance the impact of all SPIRE projects.
SPRING's objective was to increase progression towards the SPIRE goals and enhance project return on investment by addressing the needs and barriers of those who make the decisions to adopt process innovations in industry.

Project SPRING’s objective was to increase progression towards the SPIRE goals and enhance project return on investment by addressing the needs and barriers of those who make the decisions to adopt process innovations in industry. It did this by providing guidance to project participants, decision makers in industry and broader SPIRE stakeholders to: 1. Improve the articulation of the value of project exploitable outputs 2. Improve the articulation of industry needs and barriers-to-uptake of exploitable outputs 3. Improve the mapping of project value to industry needs 4. Identify policy gaps and recommendations to improve project impact
SPRING was a Coordination and Support Action project, designed to set the framework for the enhancement of impact of SPIRE projects. Consequently, the key outputs and expected outcomes relating to SPRING centre around guidance for those in SPIRE projects and the broader SPIRE community, coupled with framework changes to how projects can share information through SPIRE and out to stakeholders linked to the EU process industries.
More detail can be found on some of these outputs within the "Publications" and "Other Results" sections of this website. Long-term support and updates to these documents will be made through A.SPIRE, with current versions hosted at www.spire2030.eu/projects/guidance

Summary guidance sheets have been developed to help SPIRE projects address topics addressed in SPRING, to help enhance impact. A file containing all these summaries can be downloaded here (SPIRE Guidance Summaries), or individual pdfs can be accessed through the images below:
This template was prepared as part of the SPRING project to help SPIRE projects gather data for the various impact and exploitation frameworks project participants are required to contribute to. It is suggested that this template could also form the basis of the project exploitation plan. The context for the use of this template is as follows:
• The Project Co-ordinator and Exploitation Manager set aside time in an early project General Meeting (ideally within the first 12 months of the project) to introduce the template and support the early capture of information related to each KER anticipated in the proposal
• Project participants with a role in the development and/or exploitation of each KER complete and update the template on a regular basis (at a minimum in line with the formal project reporting timescales, though best practise would suggest at intervals aligned with General Assembly meetings), providing the information to the Exploitation Manager
• The Exploitation Manager uses the information provided to support as required:
- Reporting to Project Management Committees and/or General Assembly meetings on progress with exploitation - Preparation of Project Output Summaries for the SPRING exploitable outputs database - Completion of the annual SPIRE impact questionnaire - Completion of the Innovation Radar questionnaire
Version no 3.1 (29/08/19)
